An independent jazz-crossover and neo-soul scholar-artist who is on a mission to better society from the inside out. Through her music, scholarship, and performance, LAVAHI is building a platform to nourish the heart and mind, empathize our human experiences, and vibe together. As a daughter of jazz, the culture heavily informs her ideology and influences her sound. Acrobatic scatting, compelling chords, and the art of improvisation evoke that classic traditional aesthetic and set her contemporary sound apart from the norm of mainstream neo-soul, hip hop, and R&B. And with her satisfying blend of analog and digital sounds, LAVAHI shows that the lineage of Black sound is not linear but ever folding and stretching.

Richard Shaw Jr.

Richard Shaw, Jr., a native Atlantan, at an early age, developed a strong passion for music. There was never a doubt that his desire was to play the alto saxophone. In the beginning of 2019, Richard was featured on 11 Alive News/NBC playing the most popular kid’s song, “Baby Shark” with two saxophones simultaneously! His reputation in the southeast is that he is the gentleman who plays up to three saxophones at once in complete harmony. He is considered to be a phenomenon, smooth, and classy! Richard is said to sound like a human voice through his saxophone melodies. In his career, Richard has shared the stage, recorded, or supported many celebrities and large corporations, such as Steve Harvey, Jennifer Hudson, Wynton Marsalis, CeCe Winans, William Murphy, Tasha Cobbs, Chick-fil-A, Walmart, Fox Theater, MGM Studios, and many more.

Teresa Kay Williams

Born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, with an early childhood in Colorado, it is Eufaula, Alabama that she called home growing up. A serious student of the art of jazz, she studies privately with world class jazz pianist Kevin Bales, absorbing the traditions, language and repertoire. And she hangs with the best on the local jazz scene – dipping her toes in, testing her musical waters and working toward making her musical mark.

A veteran show band singer (and practicing Architect by day), she has taken her time to hatch out of her shell as a solo artist. These initial recordings are to serve as her introduction to the jazz listener and the fans of female jazz vocalists. Currently, she is working toward recording a full jazz vocal CD as well as developing her original country jazz project “Luna Twang”, a musical umbrella project meant to encompass jazz in general, all things Johnny Mercer in particular, rootsy originals and yodeling to her hearts content.
